Figure out exactly how much rent is owed for a partial month, based on move-in or move-out date.
Prorated rent covers a partial month, usually because a tenant moves in or out mid-cycle. The daily rent rate is the monthly rent divided by the number of days in that month (or a flat 30 days, if that's what the lease specifies), multiplied by the number of days the tenant actually occupies the unit.
For a move-in date, count from that date through the end of the month. For a move-out date, count from the 1st of the month through that date. Check the lease first — some leases specify a fixed 30-day divisor instead of the actual days in the month, which changes the result.
LeaseLoop tracks rent and payment reminders automatically, and calculates prorated rent for you when you add a new tenant.
